EuropeanIssuers is the pan-European organisation strategically positioned to represent the interests of publicly quoted companies across Europe to the EU institutions. We aim to ensure that EU policy creates an environment in which companies of all sizes – from emerging growth companies to the large blue-chip companies – can easily raise capital through the public markets and deliver growth over the longer term.

Our members include both national associations and companies from all sectors in 14 European countries, covering markets worth €12.4 trillion in market capitalisation with approximately 6,000 companies.

We are looking for a Secretary General based in Brussels, a team player who values open exchange and constructive cooperation.

The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong willingness to learn, actively seeks feedback, and can reflect critically on their own work.

We place a high priority on practical execution and impactful, concise reporting. Delivering clear results and actionable insights matters more than producing lengthy documents or emphasising formal status.

A strong service mindset is essential. The role requires a professional who sees themselves as a trusted partner to our members—approachable, responsive, and respectful at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Based on the orientation given by the Board and the Chair, formulate and implement the association’s strategic objectives
    • Identify policy priorities and anticipate policy evolutions
    • Ensure the association’s positions are well represented.
    • Prepare strategic briefs for the Chair and the Board.
  • Advocacy & Representation:
    • Represent the association before EU institutions, regulators, and other stakeholders, actively deliver impactful presentations and promote EI positions.
    • Coordinate the drafting of key documents such as EI positions, policy papers and annual reports, ensuring consistency, quality and alignment.
    • Effectively lobby and advocate on relevant legislative and regulatory files at all levels (political and technical, with the support of the team).
    • Represent members’ interests in relevant European boards and committees (i.e. the SRB).
    • Participate in public debates, and represent the association at conferences, events and stakeholders’ formal and informal platforms.
  • Member Relations:
    • Maintain close communication with members to ensure their interests are understood and represented.
    • Attract where possible new members aligned with the association’s interests and develop new forms of partnership
  • Management & Governance:
    • Lead, motivate and manage a team of at least 3 people, including 2 policy officers and coordinate their action. Coordinate with the Chair and the Board of Directors and assure the implementation of board decisions.
    • Take responsibility of the association’s administration overseeing operations and finance, ensuring compliance with regulation.
    • Assure sound budgeting.
    • Supervise the external communication of the association.
  • Communication:
    • Strengthen the association’s visibility through effective public communication, events and media engagement.

Profile & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in European affairs, law, economics, finance or a related field.
  • Significant professional experience, preferably in EU affairs, public policy, or the financial sector.
  • Solid understanding of EU policymaking processes and corporate governance, sustainable finance and capital market regulation.
  • Proven ability to identify policy priorities and translate them into effective advocacy.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation and organisational skills put at the service of a membership organisation
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Outstanding written and spoken English; cultural sensitivity that comes with a pan-European membership and working environment.
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit, able to work well with and motivate a small team to grow and adapt.
